Last Friday works at the Murrough Playground are finally ended, fences removed and the facility is open to the public.
Children up to 12 years old can now enjoy a pirate themed playground with several different entertainments including a couple of ships.
The playground is the last addition to the recent works along the Wicklow Town seafront, which include an outdoor gym and a new asphalted promenade.
Local Councillor Pat Kavanagh said “I am delighted to see the new pirate playground open and congratulate Spraoi Linn and Wicklow Co Council for a job well done. I am also delighted to see that the playground has been designed to facilitate accessibility for children with special needs, which is something I have pursued since the playground was first mooted.
The Murrough area has now been transformed into a wonderful park with fantastic views, which can be enjoyed by locals and tourists alike for many years to come. I hope that further developments will secure protection against coastal erosion and the promotion of coastal walks in this beautiful area.”
