Former Independent Cllr James O Shaughnessy stated this week that the closure of the H.S.E health centre in Roundwood is outrageous and will put a lot of hardship on the people of Roundwood and the surrounding areas.
In a statement from the former Councillor he said “Why should the people of Roundwood or the people of County Wicklow have to put up with this type of call by some officials with no foresight or vision. A few years ago it was Wicklow hospital and last year it was the health centre in Barndarrig and now its is Roundwood, you have to ask what is their next plan for the county. Where are our public reps have they lost their voices.”
“This will mean that many people who use the centre will now have to travel to Newtownmountkennedy, Wicklow town or Rathdrum health centre. Many questions have to be asked as to why the centre will be closing its doors at the end of April and how do the people from them areas get to those centres in Newtown Rathdrum or Wicklow town I also understand that the people in the health centres eg nurses and staff give great services.”
“I believe the time has come for the people to call a public meeting to get answers from the HSE as to the reason why it is closing last year we had the centre in Barndarrig close, will Rathdrum be next. How do people with no transport meant to get to these places, this centre is the life blood of the area they were well looked after with the best of nurses there WHERE ARE OUR PUBLIC REPS ?,
The question the people have to ask is who makes these decisions and why ?”
