A big thank you to everyone that supported the Alzheimer’s Tea Day, a total of €410 was raised for local services for people and their families affected by Alzheimers, a special thanks to Dot McClean  who was a great help on the day.

Community Games

A busy week for community games with ongoing athletic training every Monday evening getting ready for the County Finals in Shillelagh on Saturday June 13th.  It’s important all children make training to practice relay and team work especially baton changes.  On Friday evening we have the first ever County Tag Rugby final between Aughrim/Annacurra and Westside which is being played at 6.30pm in Annacurra. Looking forward to a good match and all support is welcome.

On Sunday the County Art and Handwriting finals take place in Dunlavin from 2pm and we wish all the children that got throught to the final the very best of luck.

Market

Visit your local market at The Pavilion, Rednagh Rd, on Saturdays from 10am to 2pm. A wide selection of local artisan produce including home baking, meat & vegetables, pates & frittatas, new season jams & chutneys and lots more. Why not drop in for a tasting and see for yourself. You will also find wonderful handcrafts including, natural handmade soaps and beeswax candles, handmade jewellery and for the children, our latest addition to the market, cute handmade fairy doors and magical fairy paraphernalia. We are looking for new and existing members for our new junior team this year, membership is €30, anyone interested please contact Ray Howes @ 086 2152629 or email me  [email protected] We are now training on Wednesday evenings at 7pm in the community field so please come along and join up.

Active Retirement

Issue 14 of the Aughrim Times will soon be in the shops, so watch out for it.  On Sunday,  May 24th we have our Dawn Chorus when we greet the day with music and song down by the fishing lake at 8am with breakfast afterwards in the Pavilion.  Our tour of Dalkey Castle will take place on June 16th. Tour will take approximately one hour and costs 7.50 – lunch will be booked locally. We hope to have the Arklow Youth Bus to transport us. Final arrangements will be announced at the June meeting. Our speaker at the meeting will be from the Hospice Foundation.  Monday Coffee Mornings continue – why not come along for a chat, a cuppa and a walk, weather permitting.

 

Run The Rock 11K Challenge 2015

Registration for ‘Run The Rock 11K Challenge 2015’ is now open on www.aughrimgaa.ie and on Run Ireland website.  Run The Rock will start at 10.30am on Saturday June 6th  outside Actons bar in The Brooklodge Hotel. It also finishes here.  This fundraising event is organised by Aughrim GAA Club committee and was a great success over the last two years with great reviews.  It is open to both walkers and runners.  The first 3K is a formidable climb to the top of Cushbawn Mountain. From here on its downhill to lap the Sean Linehan Walk and then back up to the Brooklodge  Hotel  finishline for well earned refreshments.  There is also a shorter 3.5K loop to cater for familys and kids.  Entry: Individual €20 online, Team of four €60 online, Individual On the day €25.   Family 3.5k €10. Lotto

The numbers: 1, 5, 8 and 21 drawn in Sports club lotto on Monday May 11th.  Match three winners were: Tom Murphy Cronesallagh, Joanne O’Loughlin, Ballymorris, Jimmy O’Toole, Aughrim and Patrick Kelly, Arklow.  The jackpot is €7500.
