The G.A.A season is back in full swing for another year. We have already hosted a very successful blitz for u8s and u10s in rooster park, there were teams from Avoca, Rathnew & Newcastle and everybody enjoyed a great evening of football with the kids. Thanks to all the trainers, mentors etc. we also have a u12 team this year under the stewardship of Mr Paul O Keeffe.
They have played a couple of games so far. While they lost both games they are showing promise. It is great to see u12 back in the club after an absence of a few years. Paul could do with more help with this group so if there is anyone out there willing to help please contact any club member. You will be most welcome.
Our junior b team have played three games in the league, winning 2 beating A.G.B & Tinahely and losing their 3rd to Carnew by just one point. Great to see young players coming to the fore on this team. Well done lads.
Fight night avoca v Barndarrig
The big fight night between ourselves and our good neighbours Barndarrig took place last week in the Bay Hotel in Arklow.
While we lost the boxing on a score of 8 bouts to 5, had one or two of the close fights gone our way it would have made all the difference. However this was a great nights entertainment and it was great to see two neighbouring clubs enjoying a good night together without a bad word from either side.
Firstly we would like to thank Barndarrig club and in particular Nicola and Allison for inviting us to take part. We thank all the fighters for their efforts and commitment in training and getting sponsors etc. we would like to thank Barry O Toole and Charles fleming for training the team and also Kevin Harper for the use of his premises.
Thanks also to all our sponsors for their generosity, and to those who gave prises for the raffle, Sarah Jane Power, Hickeys pharmacy, Woodenbridge golf club and Johnny & Tracey Moules and also the Arklow bay hotel for their hospitality.
This was by far the biggest fundraiser for the club for some time and it has put us in a good financial situation at the moment. There is still money coming in and when we gather it all we will publicise the final figure but at the moment it looks like it was a huge success.
Finally thanks again to Barndarrig G.A.A club and we hope that sometime in the future both clubs will get together and organise another good night out for us all.
