Brittas Bay North Beach failed to retain its blue flag status after failing to comply with water Quality standards. It’s one of three beaches around the country that failed to win the internationally recognised award.
However Brittas Bay South Beach and Greystones beach retained their blue Flags, as did Seapoint and Killiney.
The Blue Flag is administered in Ireland by An Taisce on behalf of the Foundation for Environmental Education, an international organisation that promotes environmental education for sustainable development
A total of 81 flags were awarded to beaches around the country, with a further five presented to Marinas.
