Nationwide manhunt launched for prisoner who escaped from Bray courtroom

Gardai are today continuing their search for a prisoner who escaped from Bray District Court yesterday morning.

It is believed that the prisoner, aged in his 20s, escaped as he was being led to a holding cell.

He was on remand at Cloverhill Prison for a violent crime and it is believed that he also tried to escape last month while on a hospital visit.

Gardai have now issued the man’s picture to stations nationwide in the hope that he can be located.

Minister for Justice, Francis Fitzgerald, today announced at the Prison Officers Association’s annual conference in Ennis, Co Clare that all prison officers bringing violent criminals to court will be issued with  stab-proof vests, batons and pepper spray.
