Garrath McNamee of the Daily Mirror reports this morning that investigations are underway into an incident at Loughlinstown hospital in which an elderly Wicklow woman with Alzheimer’s died two days after being attack by another patient in the hospital.
The incident occurred on the 17th of May last. The woman in her 70’s was violently attacked by a male patient and rushed to Saint Vincent’s hospital where she underwent surgery but died two days later.
However the family of the woman were initially told that she had been injured after a fall.
The H.S.E. has declined to comment, however it is understood that the male patient has been moved out of Loughlinstown hospital and that the H.S.E. is carrying out an investigation.
