A WEEKEND of fun and frolics takes place in Arklow over the forthcoming Bank Holiday weekend(Jul 29-Aug 2) as the Maritime Festival gets underway.
The official festival launch took place at Arklow Lifeboat Station last Thursday and was attended by a large crowd from across our community.
Fundraising Chairman, Michael Mordaunt outlined a packed weekend of family fun commencing on Friday July 31st with the Maritime King & Queen evening being held at Arklow Sailing Club. On Saturday there’s the Viking Boat Racing, the Viking Landing and more down at the Lifeboat station, Sunday being the main day with all kinds of family events down by the quayside. Two special attractions this year are the Irish Naval vessel, L.E. Ciara which arrives on Friday Afternoon and will be open to the public over the weekend, there will also be 2 Viking Longships direct from the Vikings TV Series.
As well as all of the family friendly events over the weekend, Local Artist Denise Brennan has launched a single called “Sailing in the Wind”, all proceeds from the sale of the single will go to Arklow Lifeboat, its available via i-tunes, Denise will be live on East Coast FM on Friday 29th July on Declan Meehan’s morning show-tune in and download!!
Mark Corcoran, Volunteer Lifeboat Press Officer At Arklow Lifeboat said “This is an important fundraising weekend for the lifeboat and there are plenty of things lined up for all the family. We are asking the community to lend their support as much as possible. We’ve got all the normal great attractions this year, with the navy and the Vikings on board, we’d like to see people down on the quay , thanks to our corporate sponsors, most of our events and attractions are free, but all donations are very welcome”
