To see real community spirit there was only one place to be on Sunday and that was in Rathdangan. The local community and beyond came out in force to support the Billy Kavanagh memorial charity run.
Close to 250 tractors registered to take part not counting the cars, motorbikes and cyclists.
Even the persistent rain could not dampen the spirits of the enormous crowd who turned up to support the event.
Organiser Liam Kavanagh who was moved to tears as he set off in his fathers tractor told Wicklownews.net “This is way beyond my expectations, I just don’t know what to say.”, proceeds from the event will go towards the rehabilitation of Adrain Keogh who is currently in the Mater hospital following a work related accident.
What they said
Kiltegan GAA, Kiltegan GAA would like to thank everyone who made it for the Billy Kavanagh Memorial tractor run on Sunday, August 23rd. There were 226 tractors registered on the day of the run, and approx 90 classic cars also. The funds raised will be of huge help to Adrian Keogh in his recovery. We’d also like to say, as a club, how proud we are of what Liam Kavanagh achieved here. He’d probably say that anyone one would have done it. But ‘anyone’ didn’t do it, you did it, Liam, and we are all proud of you for taking on this immense event on short notice. Well done to you and your family and all who assisted in the running and organisation of the event. The village of Rathdangan couldn’t have been better hosts on the day.
Rathdangan Community Council, All I can say after yesterday in Rathdangan without getting too emotional is Wow Wow Wow. …its like been part of one big very loving family……its truly a special little community….well done to everyone who organised and helped in any way on a day that will go down as one of the best in Rathdangans history.
