Members of the public are asked to be vigilante following a number of reports of two women trying to extort money from the elderly and acting suspiciously in recent weeks

Last Thursday an elderly man was approached in the Avoca area by a woman looking for money from him to help pay bills.

The man, who wishes to remain anonymous, told wicklownews.net that the incident had left him frightened.

“About lunch time last Thursday,  I heard a knock on the door,”

“When I answered it,  I was met by a woman who tried to shove a piece of paper into my hand. I asked her what it was and she said she had no money to pay her bills and could I help her.”

“I told her I had no money and when I tried to close the door she jammed her foot in it,”

“When I put my hand into my pocket to get my phone she returned to a red jeep which was been driven by another woman and left.”

There has also been reports of similar incidents taking place near Rathdrum and Wicklow Town in recent weeks although it is not known if those incidents are connected with the one above.
