Sheep Show  and Sale

Aughrim sheep breeders are holding their 48th annual show and sale at Carnew mart on this Friday September 4th.   Entries to Alan  087 2792157.  Presentation of cups at a Cabaret in O’Toole’s, Aughrim on Friday night.  Proceeds go to St. Colman’s Hospital.

Active Retirement

Have you thought of joining the Active Retirement – if so just come along  to one of our meetings  at the Pavilion on the first Tuesday of the month. On Tuesday, October 6th we will have an afternoon of song, fun and dance to celebrate Positive Ageing Week at 3pm.  We have lots of activities planned for the coming months including a ‘Spa Day, Aqua Aerobics and Mindfulness – to mention just a few.

First Responders

Aughrim First Responders are as always seeking new volunteers. There will be a training weekend for new members on October 24th & 25th. No previous experience is necessary. If anyone is interested please contact Sharon Keogh 0871255623 or Dolly Lee 0863843194 for any further information or questions. The CFR group would also like to remind the community that there is a public access defibrillator located on the Credit Union Wall (Market Square). Anyone who wishes to learn about it’s use can come along to any of our monthly training sessions or contact us.

Set Dancing Classes

The set dancing class is back starting next Thursday September 3rd in the Aughrim Community Hall at 8.30pm. Paddy and Yvonne will be there to teach the sets and encourage everyone. There is a break for a cup of tea and a chat. Beginners always welcome.

Anne DevlinCCE – Culture Night

The branch will celebrate Cultural Night 2015 on September 18th with an evening of traditional, music, song and dance in the Pavilion, Rednagh Road, Aughrim at 7.30pm.   Musicians and prize-winners from the branch will perform, together with invited guests. This is a free evening for all and some light refreshments will be provided.

GAA

The Club would like to congratulate Brian Canavan and Carol Walker on their recent wedding and wish them continuous happiness in their married life.  Our Under 10 footballers completed a very successful year finishing off with a football blitz in Arklow on Saturday last. This group of players participated in all blitzes inside and outside the County during the year and they well deserved their outing to McDonalds on Saturday last.  Training continues for our Junior ‘C’ Football team who are through to the County semi-final. At this point in time it looks as if this game will be on the weekend 19th/20th September.

The Clubs Race Night fundraiser is scheduled for Saturday September 26th. Please get all completed race cards with sponsors to John Gunning or any Finance Committee member as soon as possible.
Indoor Tennis

Indoor Tennis starts again in Aughrim’s leisure complex, Monday September 14th from 4.30-5.30pm for juniors 7-12 yrs old.  A 5 week term up to Halloween costs €35 per person or €65  for two children same parent.  Text or call David Sheehan registered Tennis professional 0878166525 if you would like your child to attend.  Also continuing on from last season a very popular adult class will run on Monday mornings from September 21st. 9.30-10.30 am.  Places limited to eight people. Taekwon Do Classes

Classes start back on  Wednesday September 9th at 6.15pm for Juniors age 4-7yrs followed by 7-8pm class (8yrs &up).  Friday night class @ 7pm-8pm.  All classes are for beginners & advanced, children, adults & family members are welcome! Classes consists of Patterns, Bag workout, Full physical fitness, sparring( Hand & foot fighting controlled) Traditional Techniques , self defence, discipline, respect & much more, Why not try something NEW!   Juniors (4-7yrs) members go through a Stripe belt system, 8yrs & up its AIMAA colour belt curriculum system. There are many events throughout the year for students to compete in- Competitions, inter-school competitions (new), Displays & parent’s night, seminar under AIMAA Masters.  Lots of events to participate in. Community Games

Summer is almost over and our children return to school this week. Community Games had a fantastic two weekends at the National Community Games Festival in Athlone in August. We were well represented by our two handwriters Laci Jane Shannon and Sammy Harpur. Our long Puck girl Katie O’Byrne, U-8 athlete Ciara Leccardi, U-15 Mixed relay team Sarah Lalor, Aoibhinn Daly O’Brien, Cian Byrne Thayer and Rory Shannon. Finally our dancers who did us so proud by bringing back medals to County Wicklow. A National Winner Solo Dance U-16 Ciara Shannon and National Second place winners Sarah Lalor and Ciara Shannon. Well done to you both. Congratulations to everyone who took part in their events you did your area and county proud and you are all winners.  Athletics will be back in a few weeks but we will let you know date so continue to enjoy the little break as you will be soon training hard again.
