Aughrim U8 and U10 footballers and hurlers have been busy of late. The footballers competed at the AGB blitz and did very well, the U10 footballers won their games while the 2 U8 teams competed very well against teams from AGB and Baltinglass. It has been great to see the improvement in these teams throughout the year. The hurlers made the trip to Carnew last week and again put in some great work against teams from Carnew, Arklow Rocks and Kiltegan. They can certainly hold their own against these very good hurling clubs.
The last football blitz of the year is in Coolkenno this Saturday. We hope to see all players there. The U12 hurlers beat Arklow Rocks on a score of 5-8 to 3-1 in the mini festival competition and still remain unbeaten this year. They will face some stronger opposition as we get closer to the end of the season and the mini festival finals. The U12 footballers also had a very good win last week against neighbours Annacurra on a score of 5-6 to 0-5, this team has progressed very well this year and are also looking forward to the mini-festival finals.
The U14 football team have had championships wins against Coolkenno, Kilmacanogue/Enniskerry and Lackan/Kilbride in the past few weeks and have progressed to the semi-final of the C Championship where they will take on Stratford. The lads are playing very well as a team now having struggled to find their form earlier in the year.
The U16’s had a very good win against An Tochar on Saturday last winning out on a score of 5-10 to 4-11 with some very good individual performances from Jamie Fleming and Gearoid Murphy. The club would like to wish Daragh Owens a speedy recovery after breaking his arm in the game. Daragh was having a great year with the U14’s and he will be missed over the coming weeks in both football and hurling.
Luke O’ Toole’s
The U14 boys from Aughrim and Tinahely have progressed to the U14 Hurling A Championship final having beaten St Pats of Wicklow a couple of weeks ago and now beating Carnew on Sunday last. They had their toughest game of the campaign but proved just a bit too strong for Carnew to come out on the right side of the scoresheet on a score of 6-09 to 4-06. It was another solid performance from the full squad of players and the lads did just about enough to win, however they will have to up their intensity and performance throughout the field if they are to overcome Michael Dwyers in the final in the coming weeks. Well done lads.
