Thanks to Myles Doyle, the ever helpful and enthusiastic manager of the Avoca Recycling Centre, four local charities/causes receive cash donations on a regular basis.
For some time the clothing bank in the Avoca Recycling Centre has been the source of some much needed funds for Wicklow Hospice, Rathdrum Cancer Support, Avoca Senior Citizens and one other deserving cause.
Last week representatives of Wicklow Hospice and Rathdrum Cancer Support received a cheque for €3,200 from Myles. Fittingly the hand over took place on the site of the hospice in Magheramore. Not content with just the clothing bank in the Avoca Centre, Myles suggested to representatives of the local charities that if bags and stickers were provided, then the clothing recycling initiative could be opened up to a much wider area.
So if you would like to donate good quality, but unwanted clothes to local Wicklow charities, all you have to do is pick up a bag and sticker, fill it at your own leisure and return it to a collection point. Bags and stickers are available at the Avoca Recycling Centre, the Wicklow Hospice Office and shops in Arklow and Wicklow, Avondale Sports, Main Street Rathdrum, and the Rathdrum Cancer Support House.
Filled bags can also be left at these locations. In time it is hoped to increase the number of distribution and collection points. These will be posted on the Wicklow Hospice website and facebook pages. Gratitude is also extended to Mr. Robert Kelly of Wicklow County Council who has facilitated this initiative.
Finally, with just over four weeks to go to the Dublin City Marathon, Wicklow Hospice will welcome new members to its team on the day. For more information contact Bill Porter in Avondale Sports and Leisure on 087-2928660 or Sinéad Tarmey in the Wicklow Hospice Office on 0402-91310.
