A hillwalker had to be rescued from the summit of  Lugnaquilla on Sunday afternoon after he became disorientated due to poor visibility.

At 2.45 pm, the Glen of Imaal Red Cross Mountain Rescue Team and the Dublin Wicklow Mountain Rescue Team were contacted by Gardai after the walker became uncertain of the safest route back down and decided to call Gardai as darkness was falling.

Mountain Rescue established a base on the Aughavannagh side of the mountain and a team of walkers were dispatched to the mans location on  the South Prison.

The man was not injured and he walked to safety with members of the rescue team.
