Murder investigation launched following Sligo death

Gardai in Sligo have launched a murder investigation following the discovery of a women’s body in a house this morning.Gardai were called to the house on Mailcoach Road after they received a call shortly after 10.30 am.

When they arrived at the scene, they were met by a man who was brandishing a knife.

An ambulance crew was already at the scene when Gardai arrived, and members of the Regional Support Unit in Sligo were forced to taser the man who is believed to be in his 30’s.

When Gardai entered the house, they found the body of a female, believed to be in her 20’s and medical attention was given to both her and the male, who are believed to be Polish nationals.

They were both removed to Sligo Regional Hospital and the woman was pronounced dead shortly after 11 am.

The scene has been preserved for a technical examination and State Pathologist, Marie Cassidy is due to conduct a post mortum on the deceased later this evening.
