Glenealy woman Laura Manley turned to social media to report to friends and family that her and friend Orlaith Munnelly were safe following the atrocities in Paris on Friday night.
Laura had traveled to Paris during the week for a short break, Laura wrote on her Facebook page.
“Hi all, just a quick post to let everyone know that me and Orlaith are OK . On lock down in our hostel, unfortunately not sure if we will be able to get home as planned tomorrow but hopefully we’ll be back home as soon as we’re allowed. Sickening and frightening to know that such evil is in this world and only ten minutes up the road from where we are staying, a very scary situation to be in after what was a wonderful few days in Paris. Thank you to everyone for the phone calls, messages and posts. Heart goes out to all the innocent souls and their families – we can’t wait to get back home.”
Up to 120 people have been reported killed in the French capital.
La Belle Equipe, 92 rue de Charonne, 11th district – 19 dead in gun attacks
La Casa Nostra restaurant, 92 rue de la Fontaine au Roi, 11th district – 5 dead in gun attacks
Stade de France, St Denis, just north of Paris – explosions heard outside venue, three attackers dead
Bataclan concert venue, 50 boulevard Voltaire, 11th district – stormed by several gunmen, 80 dead
Travel throughout the city has been restricted with the Metro system closed and delays at airports.
