A specialist roofing contractor has been appointed to repair the damaged section of the roof of the Coral Leisure Centre in Wicklow town.
Early indications are that it will take up to eight weeks to complete the work – the time includes approximately 4-5 weeks for parts to be made and delivered.
In the interim a temporary roof will be installed to ensure no further damage is sustained to the building.
Regrettably, the pool facility must remain closed during the construction period.
Wicklow County Council is meeting regularly with the management of Coral Leisure Centre to keep them updated on progress and is currently in talks with the contractor to discuss the possibility of providing a limited service to the public to access the gym and leisure element of the facility.
The contractor is conducting a Risk Assessment on this proposal and a further update will be provided early next week.
Wicklow County Council and Coral Leisure wishes to thank the public and members for their patience during this time.
On Wednesday, 18th November, during Storm Barney, serious damage was sustained to the roof of the Coral Leisure Centre in Wicklow Town. Wicklow County Council immediately organised for contractors to undertake the required clean-up the next day and temporary emergency repairs were undertaken that weekend to stabilise the damaged roof section and strengthen the eaves.
These emergency repairs allowed a structural inspection to be safely undertaken, the purpose of which was to assess the condition of the roof and the extent of the damage that had occurred and to scope the remedial work required.
