World renowned musicians “The Elders” make their 14th annual trip home to Ireland from their base in the USA from 16th October – 27th October inclusive. The band will travel around Ireland with a group of up to 80 of their fans from the USA. On their Irish tour they will play in the Arklow Bay Hotel, on Monday 24th October at 9pm, doors open at 8.30pm, with special guests “The Moxie Strings”, where audiences are in for a real musical treat.
The Moxie Strings compose the majority of their pieces and arrange melodies from many traditions, resulting in a genre-blurring blend of ear-catching melodies and foot-stomping, rock-influenced rhythms. Alison performs on a newly-invented, electric cello, and Diana on a contemporary 5-string violin, both through a variety of audio effects pedals. Fritz performs on a mix of world percussionist instruments and drum kit. Their polished, high-energy show and unique sound have quickly made the band one of the country’s most promising instrumental acts.
Ian says that “This will be our 14th bus tour of Ireland. We always bring two busloads of people with us from all over the US and Canada. We have always included Arklow on these tours.
I grew up at the White Bridge and the Meetings Avoca. Arklow has always been my home! I get great satisfaction showing off our town to all of my American friends and hopefully helping the struggling economy a little.
The feedback from our guests is always very positive for the couple of days we spend in Arklow.
I thank all of Arklow for that!”
All proceeds on the night will be divided between Nolan House, Rathdrum who took great care of Ian Byrne’s mother during her illness and Arklow Music and Arts campaign to secure the provision of a Music and Arts Centre in Arklow. Tickets €10 each and are available from Julie New, Kustom Kids (Lower Main Street), Kenny’s’ the Harbour Bar, Lower Main Street, Kavanaghs on the Wexford Road and the Arklow Bay Hotel reception and committee members of AMA Group.
The Elders were founded in 1998 by six individuals with a passion for music rooted in Americana and Celtic folk rock. From the beginning The Elders seemed to be channelling something ancient and enduring – something unaffected by fads, trends and the giant maw of mind-numbing commercialism. Their ability to bring together the art of storytelling with elements both musically progressive and rooted in tradition, has won them a broad international fan base, as well as critical acclaim in numerous publications such as PASTE Magazine, Folk & Acoustic Music Exchange, Music Row Magazine, Goldmine Magazine, TRAD Magazine (France), Chicago Sun-Times, Kansas City Star and many more.
The Elders have headlined major Celtic Festivals in North America and Europe. For the past 14 years they have sponsored a tour of Ireland in which fans are invited to join in on an extraordinary 13 day excursion visiting historical and geographical sights during the day and gathering at a local pub or ballroom at night for pints and performances by the band.
