Wicklow Community Groups Talk About Community Development

Wicklow Community Groups Talk About Community Development

On Monday last, 26th June, community groups from around the county gathered in the Brockagh Centre, Laragh to find out about the structures, processes and programmes that facilitate community development in Wicklow.  As part of Co Wicklow Public Participation Network’s (PPN) community information and engagement series, “Let’s Talk About Community Development” presented the Local Community Development Committee (LCDC), a committee responsible for the oversight of the main community development programmes in the county.  Two of these programmes, The LEADER Rural Development Programme and the Social Inclusion and Community Activation Programme were also presented along with the Co Wicklow Local Economic and Community Plan which provides a framework for all public funded community activity in the county.

Following the presentations participants highlighted the issues that they thought should be considered by the Local Community Development Committee and discussed how community groups can be informed and influence these structures and processes.

Helen Howes, Resource Worker for Co Wicklow PPN said “We would like to thank Councillor Grainne McLoughlin (LCDC), Deirdre Whitfield (Wicklow County Council), Brian Carty (County Wicklow Partnership) and Jennifer D’arcy (Bray Area Partnership) for providing valuable information and support for our community groups.  We are also grateful to Pauline and the staff of the Brockagh Centre for the use of their wonderful venue and their hospitality.  Most of all we sincerely thank those who came along and talked to us.”  Co Wicklow PPN will continue to inform member groups of the work of the LCDC and will ensure that our member’s issues and ideas are fed back to it.
