West Wicklow Historical Society

The 37th Annual General Meeting of the West Wicklow Historical Society was held recently.  John O’Toole was elected Chairman in place of Noel Lyons, who held the position for several years.  The new Vice-Chairman is Chris Lawlor.  The other officers are unchanged: Donal McDonnell (Hon. Secretary), Phyllis Flanagan (Hon. Treasurer) and Paul Gorry (PRO).  The committee members are Peadar Cullen, Michaela Davis, John Glennon, P.J. Hanlon, Tom Hannifin, Noel Lyons and Maura O’Halloran.  The Society’s ninth Journal is in preparation and it is due for publication in November.  The journal sub-committee (Chris Lawlor and Donal McDonnell) was re-elected.

There is a full schedule of events for the rest of the year.  There is a possible “Evening Stroll” in July, yet to be confirmed.  In August, during Heritage Week, a field trip and a lecture are planned with the archaeologist James O’Driscoll.  There will be lectures on 20 September, 25 October and 22 November, by Turtle Bunbury, Catherine Cox and Clíodhna Ní Lionáin, respectively.  The launch of the Journal will be another November event.
