County Wicklow Partnership (CWP) have announced that they are seeking expressions of interest from community groups and individuals who wish to avail of a €1 million budget that is being allocated for community initiatives and projects and biodiversity projects which includes walking trails and other rural recreation projects.

Launching the grant aid call, CWP CEO Brian Carty said that ‘communities in Wicklow have the opportunity to avail of funding to deliver projects to regenerate and to bring more activity in to their communities’.

This call is part of the LEADER Rural Development Programme which has a budget of €4.7 million to be spent on enterprises and communities in county Wicklow. The LEADER programme presents a unique opportunity to the people of Wicklow to play an active part in developing the economy and communities of the county using a bottom-up approach.

Three public meetings were held over the last two weeks in Hollywood, Carnew and Glenealy to inform people about the LEADER programme and details of the call and speaking at the meetings, CEO Brian Carty stated that ‘if any one has any questions relating to this call or any projects under the programme, CWP Rural Development Officers can answer any questions, help and advise people on their project ideas and how to progress them’.

Wicklow Local Community Development Committee (LCDC) in partnership with CWP has responsibility for the delivery of the new LEADER Programme in the county under the remit of the Department of Arts, Heritage, Regional, Rural & Gaeltacht Affairs.

In order for projects to be considered for funding, applicants must complete a competitive two stage application process:

  1. Complete an “Expression of Interest” form to determine if the proposal meets the objectives of the Wicklow Local Development Strategy and complies with the LEADER Programme Operating Rules.
  2. Applicants that are successful at Stage 1 will be invited to submit a full application with detailed costings and a business plan

The deadline for receipt of expressions of interest for this round of funding is September 15th, 2017.  Anyone interested on learning more about accessing LEADER funding is encouraged to contact CWP on (0402) 20955 or visit www.wicklowpartnership.ie for more information and to download a copy of the Expression of Interest Form.
