On Friday evening last Wicklow and District Lions Club held they “handover” event in Hunters Hotel.
This is a bi-annual event for the club when the current president Tony Lyons hands over his chain of office to the newly elected president Pat O’Brien . Pat is a long serving and dedicated member and has held various officer positions over the past number of years and will be president for the coming two years .
As well as the official change of presidents the night also incorporated a selection of special awards for members.
District Governor Teresa Dineen attended the proceedings all the way from Cork and spoke highly and with great praise for the Wicklow Club and she made presentations to many members including ; Una Breslin, Geraldine Mooney, Ciaran Connaughton, Joe Kirwin .
The presidents special award “Lion of the Year” was presented to a very surprised Sean Olohan.
The late Brendan O’Connor who was a past president and who is still greatly missed by all members was honoured by presenting a bouquet of flowers to his wife Carmel who very kindly came along on Friday much to the delight of the president and members.
Pat O’Connell was MC for the evening.
Wicklow Lions Club is part of Lions Clubs International which is an international secular, non-political service organisation . it has over 46,000 local clubs and more than 1.4 million members in over 200 countries around the world.
