Following on from a successful workshop in Bray in June, and as part of their Let’s Talk About information and community engagement series, Co Wicklow PPN in collaboration with Disability Federation Ireland, and Wicklow County Council are inviting people with disabilities who live, work or socialise in the Arklow and Wicklow Areas of Co Wicklow to attend a Workshop which aims to identify and propose solutions to common accessibility issues in their local area.
With support from Co Wicklow Partnership we will examine experiences in regard to: physical access, access to local services and raising awareness of the issues affecting people with disabilities locally.
Information from the seminar will support Wicklow County Council to respond to the needs of people with disabilities in Co Wicklow and help them to engage with the implementation of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities at local level.
The Bray workshop resulted in the establishment of a disability advocacy group which holds is inaugural meeting in September.
This group will feed in to the Co Wicklow Local Authorities Access Group and help to shape local policy for the benefit of individuals and families who struggle with a disability at local level. It is hoped to set up a similar group for the Arklow and Wicklow area.
The event will take place on Thursday 21st September from 11am to 1pm in The Presbyterian Church Hall, Dublin Road, Tiknock, Arklow. Places are limited so people are encouraged to register before Friday 15th September.
