The Cathaoirleach of Bray Municipal District, Cllr Christopher Fox, expressed his surprise with the recent IBAL (Irish Business Against Litter) result which lists Bray as 32nd out 42 towns and categorises the town as clean to European norms.
“This is particularly disappointing in the light of the proactive approach that we have been taking to the cleanliness of the town. We spend over €600,000 annually on street cleaning and litter management. We have introduced new measures to combat litter which include the introduction of 70 solar compactor/smart bins around the town,” he stated.
The DART Station was one site that was marked down in this survey. There has been a lot of work carried out on the Train Station by Irish Rail and also by Bray Tidy Towns. The other site mentioned as being littered was the Florence Road Car Park. This site is proposed to be developed from next year as part of the Florentine Shopping Centre and Cinema Complex.
Bray has fared very well over the past few years in the Tidy Town’s Competition and each year Bray has improved its position in this competition.
