Arklow’s biggest and best family Halloween Festival will take place from Friday 27th to Tuesday 31st October. Witches, zombies, ghosts and fairies alike are all invited to attend the spooktacular events. There will be some treats and definitely some tricks in store for all the family.
Arts and Crafts, Ghost and Heritage Walks, Storytelling, Fireworks Display and Discos are just some of the highlights in Arklow Municipal District’s festive calendar of events this Halloween.
Business owners are encouraged to decorate their premises for which there will be a prize. Owners of vacant units are also asked to decorate their windows.
As part of the festival Transition Year and Leaving Cert students in Arklow will be asked to participate in a survey titled “Survival of Traditional Folklore in The Age of Iphone and Tablet”. This survey will be conducted in conjunction with UCD Folklore Department.
The events are open to all the family young and old, and are great ways to celebrate Halloween in a safe environment. Arklow Municipal District is working closely with local communities in organising this festival to keep children and young people entertained throughout the Halloween period. Our message is to enjoy the occasion and stay away from illegal fireworks and bonfires.
Welcoming the establishment of a Halloween Festival in Arklow, the Cathaoirleach of Arklow Municipal District, Cllr Tommy Annesley, stated: “There is a long tradition of Halloween in Arklow and the events planned will bring added benefits to the businesses and local community and it is hoped that this festival will grow in the coming years. I would also like to acknowledge the hard work and commitment from the committee that have been working on this festival since February of this year”.
A Programme of Events will be published in early October. If your organisation is running a Halloween themed event and would like it included in the Programme please email details to [email protected]
