New Wicklow Senior Football manager John Evans has been dealt another blow as Éire Óg’ players have decided to withdraw their services to the county panel.
According to a report in today’s Irish Examiner, the Greystones club have made the decision as a result of being made play a senior football and hurling match within 24 hours of each other.
Stephen Kelly, Darren Hayden, and Daniel Woods have made themselves unavailabe for selection for the senior footballers, while dual star Chester Kelly along with Billy Cuddihy, Peter Keane, Anton Byrne, and James Cranley have all made thenselves unavailable for the senior hurlers.
The decision comes after the club had asked the county board not to be made play two crucial championship matches so close to each other.
The Éire Óg Senior hurlers lost their semi-final clash to Glenealy by 3-17 to 4-9 and the footballers lost their quarter-final replay to Baltinglass by 2-14 to 1-9 .
