Gareth Farrell of East Coast FM reports a Wicklow man who raped his daughter while she was recovering from serious leg burns, has been jailed for 13 years, for abusing her and her young cousin.
On Monday the Central Criminal Court heard that the 55 year old who cannot be named to protect his victims’ identities, carried out the first attack on his daughter when she was 7 years old, just after she had spent two weeks in hospital with her injuries.
The abuse continued on a weekly basis over a five year period, between 1988 and 1995.
The man pleaded guilty to five sample charges of rape, and to indecent assault and sexual assault of his daughter, he also pleaded guilty to two charges of rape and one of indecent assault of his niece on dates from June 1986 to May 1988 when she was aged between 8 and 10. He has no previous convictions.
