As part of Government preparations for incoming cold weather and snow, Wicklow TD Minister Simon Harris confirmed a double fuel allowance payment will be made.
Minister Harris said:
“Given the severity of the weather, the Government has decided to issue a double fuel allowance payment of €45 in respect of this week. It is hoped that this will offer certainty to those relying on fuel allowance and enable our customers to stay safe and warm during the severe weather.
This payment will issue automatically to all 331,000 recipients of fuel allowance. It will be processed next week and paid directly to customers in the following week commencing Monday March 12th.
Most people either pay for their fuel needs in arrears (e.g. gas, electricity) or in bulk (e.g. solid fuel/oil) so additional use of these fuels this week will not incur an immediate cost for the people concerned for a few weeks.”
