Arklow will be in bloom again this summer following the launch for a new Flower Basket Scheme for 2018.
Such was the success of the scheme last year, that Arklow Town Team decided to go ahead with the project again this year.
The aim is to improve the image of the Main Street (Wexford Road to Lower Main Street). Research has shown that this type of scheme can bring many social and environmental benefits to a town.
The Town Team has submitted an application to secure funding through the LEADER programme for the installation of an irrigation system for the Main Street for 2018.
The project will again be supported by Arklow Municipal District (AMD) and for a contribution of €35 per basket participants will receive the following:
- A fully planted 16” flower basket (with plant food and water crystals)
- Wall bracket mounted on building by AMD staff (for new participants)
- An Irrigation System will be installed on the Main Street. However, businesses are requested to supplement watering too
- For businesses on the Wexford Road and Ferrybank (outside of the irrigation system) arrangements will be made with Arklow Tidy Towns to water baskets three times per week with businesses responsible for supplementing the watering on other days
Baskets will be delivered the first week in June and collected at the end of September for reuse in 2019.
Any business interested in contributing to making Arklow bloom for 2018 please contact Arklow Town Team, Arklow Municipal District, Castle Park, Arklow. Co. Wicklow by Friday 6th April 2018.
