Ashford studios gets go-ahead for €90m expansion

Ashford film studios has been granted planning permission for a €90m expansion to their property where the hit series ‘Vikings’ is shot.

Joe and Shelley O’Connell, owners of the Co Wicklow studios, have said their latest extension has the potential to create 1,500 movie related jobs and the plan includes four new film studios of 40,000 sq ft each, a TV studio, offices and administrative space.

The expansion will also include a visitor centre and parking space for 100 coaches and 650 cars.

Ashford Studios completed the first phase of their expansion plans in May 2012. Since then, they have produced the Vikings series, employing 450 people during filming.

The studio is hoping to begin work on their new facilities by mid-June.
