Wicklow goalkeeper Mark Jackson and centre half-back Dean Healy have been named in the GAA.ie team of the week.
The Garden County pair have been rewarded following heroic displays in Wicklow’s 1-20 to 1-15 win against Offaly in the Leinster Senior Football Championship on Sunday evening.
John Evans’ side went into half-time in yesterday’s game trailing 1-5 to 0-5, before a spirited fightback in the second-half saw the game go into extra-time at 1-11 to 0-14.
Wicklow turned on the style in extra-time to score a further 1-6, while restricting Offaly to just four points. The win was Wicklow’s first SFC victory in five years and means that Wicklow will play against Dublin in the quarter-finals in O’Moore Park in Portlaoise on Sunday, the 27th of May.
Jackson put in a man-of-the-match display in the Wicklow goal, keeping Offaly at bay with a string of excellent saves as well as scoring 0-7 – more than any other Wicklow player.
Meanwhile, Healy put in a talismanic performance at centre half-back, acting as the driving force in the Wicklow engine room as well as contributing a valuable point towards his county’s surprise victory.
