The pretty village of Aughrim got a welcome boost last week as The Grainstore Restaurant re-opened under new management. Experienced hotelier Marianne Fox takes over, with chef Sean Keogh by her side, as the doors opened to the public on Friday 27th July.
Both Marianne and Sean have been working hard on their exciting new menu that aims to appeal to the local market, as well as tourists and visitors to Wicklow. Marianne explains, “We will be offering top quality ingredients, cooked and presented in a modern way, but at an affordable price. We aim to deliver a dining experience to remember for all our guests, with contemporary cuisine in a relaxed atmosphere”.
Chef Sean brings with him a wealth of experience. From his time working in France at La Bonne Etape, to his local service as sous chef in Micky Finn’s, Redcross and head chef in Christy’s of Arklow, Sean is eager to put his stamp on the Grainstore. His talent and flair comes through in his carefully designed menus, which include dishes such as Superfood Salad of Baby spinach, heirloom tomatoes, red onion, quinoa, avocado and kalamata olives from the Brunch Menu, and from the Evening Menu Lamb rump, confit fondant, cauliflower and sage, redcurrant and red wine.
Marianne also has hospitality in her blood, having worked alongside her parents Peter and Marion Moore to build up The Meetings as a successful tourism business for many years.
More recently she has enjoyed four years at the Arklow Bay Hotel, first as Food & Beverage Manager and then as General Manager.
