Powerscourt National School teacher praises children’s fitness initiative

Proving that ‘Fitness can be Fun’ are Isabelle Burrows (9), Noah Tyrell (11), Lily Ella Stenson (8) and Dylan Hall (9) at the launch of Fyffes Fit Squad programme

Powerscourt National School teacher Caroline Watchorn has praised Irish banana importers Fyffes for its nationwide ‘Fit Squad’ health and fitness programme for children.

Following two recent interactive sessions at her school, in which 120 pupils took part, Caroline said: “They worked with all ages and abilities from junior infants to 6th Class, through well organised, age-appropriate content which was fun and also challenging.

“The trainer was upbeat and very clear in how he communicated his expectations about posture and the correct ways to complete the moves.”

Delivered by Irish fitness expert Tom Dalton, topics included an active workout plus talks and tips on healthy eating, all designed to improve children’s general fitness through engaging and fun-filled activities.

“I would highly recommend all primary schools to avail of Fyffes ‘Fit Squad’ as it was great to see the pupils so engaged and giving each activity their best effort,” Caroline added.
