The town of Rathdrum has been announced winner in the “Pride of Place” awards in Cork this evening.
The Wicklow town took 1st place in the Population category of 1000-2000.
Speaking at the awards local Councillor Pat Kennedy said ” I’m absolutely delighted to be able to let everyone know that Rathdrum has won the 2018 Pride of Place Award tonight. This is an absolutely fabulous achievement and a real testament to Rathdrum and it’s people.
I would like to thank all those who volunteered and gave up their time to help make this possible. I would also like to thank Wicklow County Council for their cooperation and help. Most of all I would like to thank the community of Rathdrum for their support and their commitment to their town.”
Denis Carter of Avon Motors in Rathdrum congratulated the committee on the hard work put in and the wonderful presentation put to the judges which included Avondale House, the park and the Famine Graveyard.
The courthouse in Tinahely anf the Wicklow Hospice Foundation are also in the running for a prize.
