Warning for early morning commuters

Early morning commuters are being urged to use caution on the counties roads on Thursday morning.

Frost has been forecast for areas where skies will remain clear, hail showers caused havoc around the county on Wednesday night with a multiple vehicle accident on the M11 at Arklow.

A witness described the area of the accident as a freak situation, saying the road was wet just before the J20 exit then all of a sudden the water turned to ice, it was like a skating rink. Everyone seemed to be caught out.”

Tonight will be cold with some further showers, heavy for a time, in the east, with a risk of thunder.

Lowest temperatures of 2 to 5 degrees, with patchy frost in some inland parts.

Snow remains on the Wicklow Uplands with heavy snow reported on the Sally Gap.
