Suzy shopped locally this Christmas, and here’s why you should too

The frenzy of Christmas gift-giving and good-willing often brings us on long commutes up to Dublin to traverse through a jungle of top retail brands, and while everyone loves a day out – where is the love for our own local stores?

The plethora of local businesses and creative talents in Co.Wicklow, who have an answer for virtually every top brand product, make it hard to understand why anyone wouldn’t choose to shop locally this Christmas.

Our own Suzy Quirke took to Wicklow Town’s bustling main street and beyond to sample some of what’s on offer on the lead-up to Christmas.

Here’s what she picked up on her journey.

You can pick up these from Ebony for under €30.

Boots from The Shoebox for under €70.

Wine from Wicklow Wine Company from €10.

Byrne’s Gift Shop are offering wreathes like this priced under €20.

Yankee candle for under €10.

Glassware for under €20.

Newgrange lime and mandarin for under €20.

Wallet from Secrid at Connolly’s Menswear for under €60.

And for the kids!

Bicycle from Hopkin’s Toymaster for €119.

And a Harry Potter broomstick from Hopkin’s for under €20.

And those are just a taste of what you can pick up this Christmas from your local stores in Wicklow Town.

Shopping closer to home doesn’t just spare you the stress of journeys up and down to the city and the endless battle for parking – it’s also one of the best ways you can say ‘thank you’ to your community.

It helps the local economy thrive and keeps your town alive.

So before you hop on that train or bus, think about shopping locally. You never know what you might find.
