The hugely successful Wicklow Cancer Support Easter Soccer Blitz is set to return for its seventh year of competition this Easter.
The event, which sees underage and senior teams battle it out in a series of non-competitive blitzes across the Finlay Park and Whitegates pitches in Wicklow Town, has raised in excess of €45,000 throughout its previous six stagings and will take place on Friday, April 19.
Speaking ahead of the event, founder and Wicklow soccer referee, Tony “Butch” Doran thanked the clubs who have supported the blitz in the past as he looks forward to another year of raising money for a worthy cause.
“On behalf of Wicklow Cancer Support and the Doran family, I would like to thank all clubs and people who have supported the Easter Weekend Soccer Blitz over the last seven years, which has raised in excess of €45,000 for a worthy cause.”
“Last year we had 400 young players enjoy a fun day of soccer with all receiving medals for their participation. We are again looking for your support at this year’s blitz and hope teams from your club can join us on the day,” said Doran.
Registration for the blitz has now opened, with the format being seven aside as in previous years.
