Following on from their very successful development of the Aughrim Community Leisure and Sports facilities in Aughrim, the Sports Complex Committee, with the assistance of Cllr. Pat Kennedy, are now about to embark on the development of a new playing pitch adjoining their sports fields at Rednagh Road in Aughrim.
A submission was made to Wicklow County Council under the new County Development Plan to rezone a one-hectare area of land from Industrial use to Recreational use.
Cllr. Pat Kennedy steered the application successfully through the council chambers and the property is now in the process of being leased to the community group for a thirty-five-year term.
An application for funding for this project has been submitted to the Sports Capital Fund and, assuming that the application is successful, the current derelict state of this property will be transformed into a new asset for the use of the young people of the Aughrim community.
“We are grateful to Cllr Kennedy for his assistance and his continuing help in our dealings with the Local Authority” said Declan O’Brien, Chairman
Cllr. Kennedy said, “I see this as an investment in the children of Aughrim and the future of Aughrim”.
