Scoil Réalt na Mara, Brittas Bay invited one and all to their annual Garden Day on Wednesday, 12th June.
The annual event, which, despite the rain, took place in the school grounds – Scoil Réalt na Mara, Ballinacarrig, Brittas Bay, Co Wicklow – where cakes, toys, plants and toys were in abundance and even in the rain – everything sold out fast!
The garden day, which is always a huge success, invited parents, grandparents, friends and members of the public to the school to show off its grounds which boasts a polytunnel and raised beds stuffed with vegetables. All organically grown, the vegetables and plants were for sale on the day.
This year children have tried their hand at growing peas, potatoes, scallions, beetroot and lots of beautifully fragrant herbs – all cared for by the very knowledgeable kids from Junior Infants to Sixth Class under the watchful eye and guiding-hand of the school gardener, Wendy Nairn.
Commenting on the event, Eileen Byrne, Principal of the school said, “We were thrilled to be able to invite everyone to our wonderful school for Garden Day. We’re so proud of the school and all that we achieve, and we’re delighted to be able to show it off – particularly to parents from the local area who have young children who will be enrolling in school in the coming year. It was an opportunity to give them a sense of what we aim to achieve here.”
“Children love the garden and getting to play in the outdoor classroom surrounded by fairy doors, and watching the birds nest in the bird houses the students have made. As ever, it was a resounding success and we were delighted to welcome friends, family and new faces too.”
Brittas Bay National School is now open for enrolment for the 2019/2020 school year for students from Brittas Bay, Wicklow, Arklow and surrounding areas. Contact the school for further information on (0404) 47488.
