Stephen Donnelly, Independent TD for Wicklow and East Carlow has received confirmation that emergency services at Saint Colmcille’s Hospital, Loughlinstown will be transferred to Saint Vincent’s University Hospital at the end of this month.

Loughlinstown will, however, operate a local injuries unit from 8am to 6pm, seven days a week to treat suspected broken bones, sprains and minor burns and scalds.

“The reconfiguration of hospital services has the full support of the clinical community.

These measures will result in better patient care and will save lives. There will be no reduction in staff and no nursing staff will be moving from Loughlinstown.

“This is a step on the path to improving and modernising healthcare for Wicklow.

I will continue to liaise with the HSE regarding the process of upgrading and reconfiguring healthcare in the county, including the transition from hospital based care to community based care.”
