Mountain rescue reach 100th callout

The Glen of Imaal Mountain Rescue Team undertook their 100th rescue operation of the year on Saturday.

At around 5:30 that evening, the Glen of Imaal Red Cross and Dublin/Wicklow mountain rescue teams were tasked by An Garda Siochana to search for two missing female walkers who had become separated from their main group while descending Lugnaquilla.

After a short search the two walkers where located safe and well and reunited with their group in Glenmalure.

Almost simultaneous to their 99th call out both rescue teams were also tasked to search for one male hillwalker who became disorientated on Lugnaquilla in deteriorating weather conditions and poor light.

The missing walkers position was located through the use of SARLOC, a smartphone app to help locate hillwalkers in trouble.

A hasty team were dispatched and they located the man on steep ground. He was treated by mountain rescue medics for mild hypothermia and once warmed up the group made their way to a waiting Mountain Rescue 4×4 vehicle to be brought back to safety.
