Katie Taylor put in another world class display of boxing last night, this time in front of a packed Ballywaltrim Community Hall in her home town of Bray.
Taylor was up against Finnish boxer Mira Potkonen in what was her second bout of the week, having already notched an impressive win against Canada’s Caroline Veyre in the Mansion House on Friday night.
Potkonen made it clear in the first round she was not in Bray to enjoy the seaside as she took the fight to Taylor, but Katie stepped it up over the next three rounds and won on an unanimous decision.
Saturday night’s undercard featured boxers from Bray, Arklow and Drimnagh who entertained the crowd with some tremendous bouts, but it was evident who all had come to see.
Before the golden girl took to the hall giant screens flashed back to last summer, showing Katie’s greatest moment in London.
As Katie entered the hall the crowd went wild waving Irish flags and home-made banners showing support for the Wicklow boxer.
After the fight Katie thanked her fans for their great support over the years and said she was looking forward to doing it all again in Rio.
In her usual fashion Kate posed for pictures and signed autographs until well after the fight.
