Pensioners hospitalised after attack


Gardai are investigating an horrendous attack at the home of three elderly men close to the village of Roundwood.

Two of the men were taken to Loughlinstown hospital for treatment following the ordeal which took place at 6am on Friday morning.

One of the men was awakened when he heard a disturbance outside his bedroom window.

It is understood as many as five men wearing balaclavas entered the house and terrorised the occupantswith hammers for over an hour, one of the men put up a fight and managed to remove a balaclava but did not recognise the intruder.

The raiders were unsuccessful in their efforts to break into a gun press, but ransacked the home and took a small amount of cash.   

A family member told WicklowNews.net the men have been left traumatised and are now in fear following the ordeal.
