Record entry for charity fun run

In what is now the biggest participant sporting event held in Co. Wicklow each year, the annual Burke Oil Street of Wicklow 5km Road Race & Charity Fun Run on St. Stephen’s Day attracted a record entry of over 700 runners for the main event with almost 200 children taking part in the Kids Fun Run.

The weather conditions were ideal for the event with blue skies and strong sunshine adding greatly to the fantastic atmosphere generated by this well established event.

Many participants from outside the county travelled to take part and were high in the praise of the management of this event which is organised annually by the Wicklow Town based Inbhear Dee Athletic Club.  Many entire families took part with in one case three generations of one family participating.  Each participant received a complimentary Street of Wicklow fleece hat.

The first male runner home was Mick Byrne from the Parnell Athletic Club in a time of 16 mins 59 secs the first female home was Emma O’Brien from the Inbhear Dee Athletic Club in a time of 19 mins 16 secs

The winner of the Kids Fun Run was Cormac Byrne from Inbhear Dee Athletic Club.

The sponsors Burke Oil Products and Inbhear Dee Athletic Club wish to thank the 60 stewards, the Gardai and all the voluntary organisations who enabled this event to be run very successfully.
