An online campaign calling for stricter regulation of hunting, that was set up by a distraught family in Wicklow, has attracted over 5,000 supporters in a little over 24 hours.
The Justice for Isabelle campaign was set up after a pack of out of control hunt hounds savagely killed a family pet in Ashford on Saturday afternoon.
The family claim that locals were not informed the hunt was taking place and have started a Facebook campaign to have the laws and regulations governing the “bloodsport” changed.
A petition has also been created on Change.org calling on the Irish government to “implement strict regulations to prevent further needless tragedy.”
A statement from the family on the Justice for Isabelle page said: “It is clear that the majority have spoken and change needs to happen. This dangerous past time should not be allowed to continue in the way it has been doing so.
“The gardai have been contacted. We will be making a statement and pursuing this case so those responsible are prosecuted.
“I have set up an online petition and would be grateful if you could sign and share. If you feel strongly about this issue, I urge you to contact your local TD’s, journalists and animal welfare groups to highlight your concerns.”
