Wicklow County Council will not be pursuing residents of Brook Meadow estate in Avoca for unpaid development levies.

Last February it emerged that Wicklow County Council was pursuing residents for the unpaid  levies.

At the time, the council sent letters to 24 households demanding that they cover the levies, which should have been settled by the developer of the housing estate.

The total value of the contributions being sought by the council is €65,280. An average of €2,720 is being sought from each homeowner.

Local TD Stephen Donnelly, who raised the issue with Minister Phil Hogan last February, welcomed the news: “I was very pleased to hear that the ombudsman has now ruled that Wicklow County Council should not have pursued residents of Brook Meadow for development levies. I am especially happy to hear that some residents have had fees reimbursed.”
