Vandals destroy town’s Christmas decorations

Gardai in Wicklow town are investigating damage to the town’s Christmas decorations.

A solider and a ballet dancer display which has stood in the Abbey grounds opposite the Grand hotel for the last three years during Christmas was destroyed by vandals sometime between Sunday night and Wednesday morning.

Wicklow chamber president John Sinnott said “It is sickening, we are trying to put on a display to help create an atmosphere in the town and this is how we are repaid. This particular display cost  €4’000 and now it is worthless, I don’t know if it can be repaired.”

The display was down due to the high winds over the weekend but was all intact and ready to go back into storage until next Christmas.

It is hoped that CCTV from premises close by will aid in the capture of the culprits.
