Protect beach before it’s too late: Whitmore

Urgent action is required to prevent Greystones North Beach completely disappearing from coastal erosion, says independent candidate Jennifer Whitmore.

“The North Beach is an important community asset that should be protected from further coastal erosion,” Whitmore said.

“Wicklow County Council have outlined a planning framework to protect the North Beach and old town dump in the 2103 Local Area Plan. But if something isn’t done soon, there will be nothing left to protect.

If something isn’t done soon, there will be nothing left to protect

“Having studied coastal management, I’m acutely aware that coastal processes are very difficult to predict and costly to manage. In light of the considerable erosion that has occurred in the last few years, I would like to see a full coastal analysis undertaken, with any recommendations to be implemented fully before we lose any more of the beach.

“There’s a chance that the previous commitment to provide beach nourishment to this site will no longer be sufficient to fully protect the area.”
