After a recent visit to Arklow Cancer Support Group, Independent TD Stephen Donnelly praised the Group, its volunteers and Director of Services Mary O’Brien.
“Arklow Cancer Support is has been an amazing success,” Deputy Donnelly said. “They have doubled the number of clients they help in the last year alone. This growth proves the huge demand for the emotional support and practical help the centre offer people with cancer and their families.
“The growth is also dependent on a huge amount of community support. Arklow Cancer Support is a great example of what can happen when the community pulls together.
“One of the centre’s most impressive services is the volunteer to drive programme, which helps ease some of the stresses of travelling to and from cancer treatment appointments. A team of trained, volunteer drivers provides free transport to St. Luke’s hospital on a daily basis.
“The centre is currently raising funds for a seven-seater car needed to deliver this service to more and more clients. I have no doubt that the community will continue to support the Arklow Cancer Support Group with this fundraising drive.”
