The railings leading down to Travelahawk Beach in Wicklow town are due to be replaced, it has been confirmed.
The Town Clerk confirmed to Labour candidate Paul O’Brien that the new railings will be fitted “in the coming weeks”.
Part of the railings at the steps leading down to the beach south of the Black Castle are missing, while a significant portion of the remaining railings are loose.
The small Travelahawk beach is popular location for bathers and people walking their dogs.
The beach is also a popular among visitors to the town who are drawn to the Black Castle.
The railings have been in need of repair for over a year and news of their replacement will be welcome coming into the tourist season.
“I would like to thank the Council for their swift action and I look forward to the new railings been erected, which will not just clean up this lovely beach but also make it accessible for our senior citizens that use this beautiful amenity,” O’Brien said.
Meanwhile, O’Brien is urging the council to clean and repair the local beach in Wicklow.
“I know Wicklow Rowing Club is anxious to start training and needs these works carried out ASAP. I have requested our local TD Anne Ferris to contact the council and look for an immediate response,” he said.
“With the summer fast approaching, I trust the council will have our beach ready for everyone that avails of this local amenity.”
